Tony Bellew won a tough and at times ugly 12 round unanimous decision over Isaac Chilemba.
Bellew, from Liverpool, and Malawi’s Chilemba had fought to a draw in March, in a fight that failed to catch alight. This was a similar affair, with Chilemba proving to be an awkward customer but Bellew made some adjustments from their first encounter and managed to dictate the contest with his jab.
The Englishman appeared to be complaining in his corner of a pain in his right eye from early on in the bout but managed to dig deep to win by scores of 16-112, 117-112, 116-112 which may have been a little generous to the WBC Silver champion.
With the win, Bellew improves to 19-1-1, 12 KOs whilst the Buddy McGirt trained Chilemba falls to 20-1-2, 9 KOs.
Bellew is now the mandatory challenger to the winner of the upcoming Chad Dawson v Adonis Stevenson fight.
