Liverpool’s Tony Bellew has stepped in to face Welshman Nathan Cleverly for the full blown WBO light-heavyweight title at the O2 Arena in London on Saturday night.
The unbeaten Commonwealth champion replaces WBO champion Juergen Braehmer, who pulled out yesterday after sustaining an eye injury. Bellew, who boasts a 15-0 record, accepted the offer early on Thursday morning.
The good news is The fight will also be for the WBO light-heavyweight title after promoter Frank Warren successfully largued that WBO champion Braehmer should be stripped after pulling out of a title fight for the second succesive time. Cleverly was previously the interim champion but has now been installed as the full champion.
"I’m coming down to London to fight and believe when I say I’m going to knock Cleverly out cold," a confident Bellow told Sky Sports.
"I wouldn’t have put myself forward if I didn’t think I could beat him. Two months notice or two day’s notice, I know I can beat Cleverly - I always have.
"For the fans, I can promise them the best fight they will see in the last 10 years."
