Promoter Frank Warren today announced that WBO Light Heavyweight Champion Jurgen Braehmar has withdrawn from his fight with Nathan Cleverley, scheduled for the O2 Arena in London on Saturday.
Braehmar has a history of late withdrawals from fights, having done so from his last scheduled defence against Beibut Shumenov a few months ago.
However, Warren has stressed that the show will still go ahead as planned, and a replacement opponent will be announced shortly.
’I am obviously disappointed that Braehmar has pulled out, especially as I was so convinced that Nathan was going to take his World Title off him in the ring,2 Warren siad on his official website. "Unfortunately, this will now not be possible as Braehmar has withdrawn from the fight. We are still waiting for the reason for him doing so.
The show goeas ahead with James DeGale fighting George Groves for the British and Commonwealth Super-Middleweight titles, Frankie Gavin fighting for the WBO Intercontinental Welterweight Title against Young Muttley and a full undercard.
Warren also confirmed that he has put in an application to the WBO to have interim titleholder Cleverly installed as full Champion.
