By Clive Bernath: James ‘Chunky’ DeGale stepped up in class and answered his critics perfectly by dismantling Sunbury On Thames middleweight Matthew Barr in the second round at the Wembley Arena earlier tonight.
DeGale looked a little too eager to impress his hometown fans in the opening round but settled down in the second to floor Barr three times, prompting referee Grant Wallace to call off the fight after 1.38 of the second round.
Barr, tried to jab on the move but DeGale closed him down pretty quick in the second session. It was not long before a chopping right hand floored the 32 year-old Postman. Barr stumbled to his feet and gave it a real go but another right hand floored Barr for a second time. Barr rose too quick and was soon decked again leaving referee Grant Wallace no choice but to jump in and save Barr from further punishment
