Deontay Wilder to face Derek Chisora in England on June 15 and faces battery charges

Olympic bronze medalist and undefeated pro, Deontay Wilder (28-0, 28ko’s) will return to England to face Finchley’s Derek Chisora at Wembley on June 15th.

Wilder is well known to English fans following his 70 second annihilation of Audley Harrison just last month.

Chisora who has faced some of the top Heavyweights in the world, including Vitali Klitchsko, David Haye and Robert Helenius, will look to be back to his best following a lacklustre showing in his last outing against Hector Alfredo in April.

American Wilder was arrested and charged for domestic assault in Las Vegas following an incident on Saturday night at the MGM Grand, the venue of the Floyd Mayweather v Robert Guerrero fight. He will face a court hearing on July 3rd for allegedly assaulting a woman whom he believed was trying to rob him.

The Tuscaloosa News reports that Wilder’s attorney Paul Patterson issued the following statement;

“Deontay instinctively acted under the false impression that someone was stealing from him. That wasn’t the case. He regrets his actions. He is extremely regretful because this is not consistent with his reputation. He and the victim have spoken about this and the victim has accepted his apology. We hope this matter will be brought to a resolution soon.”

The undercard will see Frankie Gavin put his British Welterweight title on the line against undefeated Commonwealth champ, Denton Vassell in what promises to be an exciting fight.
