In a IBF/WBA Super Middleweight unification fight from the o2 arena in London, England, Carl ’The Cobra’ Froch won a tough, exciting 12 round unanimous decision over 5 time world champion Mikkel ’The Viking Warrior’ Kessler.
Froch set a hot pace in the early rounds boxing sensibly behind a sharp and consistant jab, which seemed to bamboozle the Dane. However, Kessler came back into the fight from round 4 and managed to claw back rounds 5 and 6 with some good jabs of his own and cleaner more fluid combination punching.
Round 8 proved to be a crucial round in the fight with Froch landing some hard shots and Kessler firing back with his own, but the Nottingham man once again showed that his chin is one of the best in world boxing.
Froch appeared to have a lead going into the championship rounds and despite a valiant effort from the Dane in round 11, Kessler started to tire.
The two warriors went toe to toe in the 12th, with both men eating big punches but Froch having the upper hand almost prompting the referee to halt the action in the last minute.
Both men raised their hands at the final bell but Froch looked the fresher of the pair and had the demeanour of a man who had done enough to earn the verdict.
The judges scores were 116-112, 115-113 and a far too wide 118-110.
The fighters showed great respect between each other after the contest and Froch suggested that they may go at it again for a third time.
