Birmingham’s Frankie Gavin retained his unbeaten record at Liverpool’s Echo Arena but seemd fortunate to be handed a 12 round split decision win overCurtis Woodhouse.
Gavin was the favourite to retain his WBO inter-continental welterweight title but Woodhouse gave him all the trouble he could handle. Gavin started slow but picked up the pace in rounds four and five.
Gavin got the verdict, on two judges cards 117-112 116-113, while the third official scored the bout 115-114 to Woodhouse.
On the same card Tony Bellow added the vacant British light-heavywieght title to his Commonwealth crown when he scored a lack labourous 12 round points win over Ovill McKenzie. The scores were 118-111 twice and 119-110. Unlike their first fight, this was far from exciting.
