Former two weight world champion Ricky Hatton, the promoter of Ryan Rhodes, has backed his fighter to upset the odds and defeat Saul Alvarez in Mexico City on Saturday night.
Rhodes challenges the 20 year-old Mexican for his WBC junior-middleweight title in front of a partisan 16,000 plus crowd and Hatton believes Rhodes’ vast experience will be the key to victory Talking to Hatton.Tv, Ricky Hatton said: “Alvarez has had a lot of fights under his belt, but he’s still a baby.
“Ryan has to go out there and use his experience, Alvarez has been shaken up before by Miguel Cotto’s brother (Jose) and Ryan has to think ‘I am in the form of my life’ and turn the crowd on him.
“There’s going to be 16,000 Mexican’s there baying for his blood.”
Regarding his younger brother Matthew Hatton, who was out-pointed by Alvarez a few months ago, Hatton said: “I have been there before with my brother Matthew, but he wasn’t’ big enough for Alvarez whereas Rhodes definitely is.
Hatton added; “I have every confidence that Ryan can do it.”
