Ricky ‘The Hitman’ Hatton has renewed his boxing licence with the British Boxing Board of Control. The 32 year-old’s license had expired but Hatton has confirmed he has renewed his licence, leaving the way clear for him to fight again should he choose to do so.
Hatton has not fought since being destroyed inside two rounds by pound for pound king Manny Pacquiao in May 2009 and could decide to have one more fight in a bid to erase the bitter memory of the Pacquiao defeat.
Speaking exclusively to the News of the World’s Steve Lillis, Hatton said: "I certainly haven’t announced my retirement and you never say never.
"Floyd Mayweather Jnr was retired for two years not long ago and he made a successful comeback. It is only 14 months since I fought Manny.
"I have renewed my boxing licence again with the British Boxing Board of Control in case I decide to fight again.”
Whilst Hatton keeps everyone guessing as to whether he will fight again one thing he is certain about is building up his promotional company. Hatton Promotions. The company has only been trading for little over a year but already Ricky has produced a number of major champions and successfully negoiated a televison deal with Sky Sports.
"There are not many promoters in the world who have done what I’ve achieved in their first 12 months so it can only go from strength to strength’ said Hatton, speaking to the News of the World .
"In 10 years I see myself as the best promoter in the country and still being as enthusiastic then as I am now - whether it is a four round kid having his first fight or our Matthew.
"Every promoter starting out says they want to be the biggest and best. If you don’t have those ambitions don’t bother in the first place.
"As a boxer I wanted to be the best fighter in the world and now my aim is to be the best promoter in the world”.
