Sunderland’s Danny ’Boy’ Hughes has pulled out of his heavyweight clash against Larry Olubamiwo on July 10 because of a back injury.

The 23-year-old was due to the Londoner at the Seaburn Centre but a back injury has affected his pre-fight preparations and trainer Tommy Conroy decided to pull out his fighter rather than risk taking a fight knowing his boxer not 100% fit.
Talking to the Sunderland Echo Conroy said: "Danny’s very disappointed and was thinking right up to the last minute that he might have a chance. If I’d let him, I’m sure he would have been happy to get in the ring – he’s that sort of lad.
"But I’ve got to do what’s best for his future and the simple fact is that it would have been unfair of me to let him keep pushing himself with a back problem."
