Olympic Bronze medallist Tony Jefferies has been forced to pull out of Friday night’s fight in Nottingham against Nathan King because of a hand injury.
His father and manager Phil Jefferies said his son is 90% fit but has a ‘niggle’ in his hand and although Jefferies was training well and super fit, he and promoter Frank Maloney decided to pull him out as a precaution.
Speaking to Journallive Sport Phil Jefferies said: “He’s(Tony) got a little niggle and we want him 100% right.
“It’s going to be a busy year for him, so we didn’t want to take any risks. I spoke to Frank Maloney about it and he said he didn’t want Tony boxing if he’s not 100% right. It’s a pity because he’d been jumping out of his skin in training but he just couldn’t clear the last hurdle.
