Khan Signs Promotional Deal With Golden Boy Promotions

WBA junior-welterweight champion Amir Khan has signed promotional deal with Oscar De La Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotions in a bid to gate crash the lucrative American market.

The 23 year-old from Bolton announced the deal on Sunday, effectively ending his five year partnership with promoter Frank Warren.

Speaking on the BBC Sport website the former Olympic silver medallist said: "I’m ready to fight anyone, anywhere, anytime and know Golden Boy will help me accomplish these goals.

"I am really happy Khan Promotions is partnering with Golden Boy.

"I know that together they will be the right team to help me continue my career as an elite fighter and to expand my fan base to the United States and around the world."

Khan’s career looked very much on shaky ground after being viciously knocked out by Breidis Prescott in September 2008 but since teaming up with American trainer Freddie Roach, Khan has bounced back in style, improved his porous defence and ripped WBA junior welterweight title from Andreas Kotelnik in style.

Golden Boy are understandably delighted to be strengthening their stable. "Amir Khan is one of the most talented fighters in the world at any weight,” said Golden Boy President Oscar De La Hoya.

"That talent, combined with his charismatic and out-going personality, makes him a promoter’s dream and I feel will one day lead him to being the face of boxing,"

"We are extremely excited to team with Khan Promotions and look forward to introducing Amir to fight fans in the United States and around the world."

A spokesman for Frank Warren told BBC Sport on Sunday that the promoter was unavailable for comment.
