On Saturday, August 20, at Sumiyoshi Ward Center, Osaka, Osaka, Japan, Rocky Fuentes kept busy with a unanimous decision over Hirofumi Mukai in a twelve round flyweight bout. Fuentes improved his record to 29-6-2 (17). Mukai tasted defeat for the first time as a pro and fell to 5-1 (0).
Fuentes hangs on to his SecondsOut number ten ranking at 112, but he is in need of greater opposition to elevate the ranking he earned mostly through attrition.
Also on the same date, at La Cetto Vineyard, Ensenada, Baja California, Mexico, Fernando Montiel stopped Alvaro Perez in a three rounds of a super bantamweight bout. Perez hit the canvas in the third round and the bout was called at the 1:26 mark. Montiel has put two victories between him and his last defeat to Nonito Donaire. He appears to have carried his power to 122 pounds from bantamweight. Montiel, in pursuit of a world title in his fourth division, improved his ledger to 46-3-2 (36). Perez dipped to 21-4-1 (12).
Montiel, a champion at 112, 115, and 118 pounds, holds onto his number seven SecondsOut ranking at super bantamweight.
