‘Pretty’ Ricky Boylan has teamed up with a new trainer who will help him keep his good looks ! Boylan relaunches his professional career on manager Mickey Helliet’s show at The Coronet in Elephant and Castle, London on Friday, November 25 – and the 23 year-old lightweight from Carlshalton will have a new trainer in his corner for the fight. He is training with Alan Smith and reckons he will be boxing better than ever on a show televised throughout Europe on Eurosport. “We’ve been working on my boxing,” said Boylan, “rather than just standing there having a fight. “I’ve been working on slipping shots and moving my feet more, so hopefully, this fight won’t hurt as much as the others !” Boylan has shown an exciting crowd-pleasing style in his points wins over Sid Razak and Kristian Laight – and is known to his many supporters as ‘Pretty.’ “That wasn’t my idea !” laughed Boylan. “I have been told I’m a good-looking boy, but it was my friend’s idea and it seems to have stuck.” Boylan has proved to be a good ticket seller in his career – more than 150 fans have followed him from Carlshalton for his first two professional fights – and at ringside for his next fight could be Rihanna’s boyfriend ! The multi-million selling pop star is currently dating Dudley O’Shaugnessy, a former top amateur boxer currently working as a model, and Boylan said: “Dudley is one of my best friends – and it’s fair to say he’s doing quite well for himself !” Boylan has been out of the boxing ring for eight months after suffering a hand injury when outpointing Kristian Laight – and hopes this month’s fight will kick start his promising professional career.
“2012 could be a big year for me,” he said. “By the end of next year, hopefully I will be unbeaten in 10 fights and looking for a title fight.” Carlshalton bricklayer Tony Owen tops the bill at The Coronet when he challenges top-10 ranked Ben Murphy for the Southern Area lightweight championship and tickets are available from 07585-918345.
