Iain Butcher, from Motherwell, is looking forward to impressing his home crowd on Friday at the Cleland Miners Club when he takes on Welshman, Darren Pryce.
The quick punching flyweight scored a knockdown on route to a decision victory over Anwar Alfadli in his pro debut. The fight was featured on Sky Sports Ringside and Butcher admits that he was happy with the results; “My first fight went well and I enjoyed getting the knockdown in the first round. After that I didn’t really settle into a rhythm but I got the victory and it’s a learning curve.”
Butcher acknowledges that he has made slight changes to his preparation; “My training has changed slightly to suit the pro game. I’m doing a lot more sparring and roadwork and I’m sitting down on my punches, so that I can hurt people. I also find that while I’m training harder I’m setting a higher pace.”
The former amateur star continues; “I’m looking forward to my second fight against Pryce and don’t plan to change too much. I need to keep my distance, find out what he’s got to offer and take it from there. This time I’ll settle earlier, keep my composure and come out with another win.”
Iain Butcher, Chris Steel and Kris Hughes take part in the next Prospect Boxing show on Friday 9th December at the Cleland Miners Club. Tickets are priced at £30 and include a buffet and comedian.
