Former WBA junior-welterweight champion Gavin Rees is on the verge of a second World title shot.
Nothing has been confirmed as yet but Rees and his long time trainer Enzo Calzaghe believe there is every chance the Welshman could challenge WBC junior-welterweight king Devon Alexander on a Don King promoted card in Las Vegas on March 6.
Speaking to Boxingnewsonline.net The 29 year-old Welshman said: “Alexander’s name is being put forward at the moment and we’ve sent contracts back so we’re just waiting for confirmation.
“Hopefully it goes ahead but I’ve seen Urango down on Boxrec so I don’t know what’s happening there. We should know for definite next week.
“Enzo says he’s in contact with Don King everyday, seems to think it’s 100 per cent on, he seems to have been telling everybody [about it], but we’re just waiting now. The chance to be a two-time world champion is what I’ve been waiting for. I want to take the opportunity now to step onto bigger things.
“I said I wouldn’t box at light-welterweight again but obviously for a world title I’m willing to fight at the weight again. It’s a great chance for me to get the WBC belt, but if not I’ll come back to lightweight.”
