Despite his painful 12th round stoppage defeat at the hands of Saul Avarez in Mexico last weekend, European junior-middleweight champ Ryan Rhodes has declared he will fight on.
The 34 year-old was soundly beaten by the young 20 year-old WBC champ but said he will defend his European crown and see where that takes him: “I’m still not finished,” Rhodes said, speaking to the Sheffield Star. “I’ve still got plenty of good years in me yet. I’m still loving the game. I never lost my European title or gave it up. So I’m still number one in Europe, I could fight for that and see where we go from there.”
Regarding the defeat to Alvarez in his third attempt to win a world title Rhodes added: “He’s a strong young kid - I was beaten by a superstar of world boxing. His body shots took their toll on me through the fight. Then he caught me with a couple of good body shots in that final round.”
