One of the nicest BBBofC trainer’s on the current circuit has to be TRAD TKO’s Barry Smith. The former brawler from Repton ABC & West Ham ABC, has definitely stamped his authority as one of Britain’s fine young Trainer’s and has held a licence now for three years.
What makes Smith special is his work ethic and commitment, not only to TRAD TKO, but his work colleagues at the popular Canning Town gym. It’s been well documented that TRAD TKO “Gaffer” Johnny Eames has been suffering with Lip Cancer, and the friendly and approachable Smith has been a “rock” for Eames while he has been receiving treatment at St. Bart’s Hospital in London.
Barry Smith has been instrumental in developing fighters such as Leon “Solid” Williams and new Italian sensation Federico Tavares (the best kept secret in the UK). Barry Smith is always on hand to give young fighters his advice and guidance either Amateur or Professional and I believe, like his colleague Mark Tibbs, he is the “new breed” of trainer in Britain.
Smith is always on the look out for unattached pro’s to develop and nurture and his Pad work with the fighters can only be described as outstanding. Smith always comes to work with a smile on his face, and his passionate about the sport they call the “sweet science”.
“I’m always in the gym by 8.30am every day and don’t finish until gone eight at night it’s knackering but I wouldn’t have it any other way. I’ve known John (Eames) for years from my West Ham days and we come out of the same town in the East End (Poplar),” said Smith.
If you’re an unattached pro and want to go to work with Johnny Eames and Barry Smith ring the TRAD TKO Gym on 020 7474 3199 or go to the website www.tkoboxinggym.co.uk and say you have been recommended by Danny Coyne.
