Bernard Dunne, Ready For Anything

By David Boyle: Bernard Dunne has put the finishing touches to his most intense training camp to date ahead of his world title fight with Ricardo Cordoba at Dublin’s O2 arena on March 21.

Dunne is very happy with the training camp that he has endured ahead of the WBA title fight. “Things couldn’t have gone any better for a fight of this magnitude”, said Dunne.

The former European champion has added to his training team by bringing in Nutritionists Blue Skinners and Jason Kenny. “Getting down to the weight limit as best I can is a main goal and by doing it right it will make me stronger on fight night,” said a confident.

Also added to the team is Strength and Conditioning specialist Mike McGurn. Having previously worked with the Irish rugby team he has a wealth of experience and has been working on Dunne’s strength ahead of the fight.

Speaking about the fight itself Dunne is very confident of victory, stating: “Most of my fights I have been the bigger man in the ring, however in this one Cordoba is the taller and has a slight reach advantage, which will make it a tough fight”.

“Cordoba is an all round fighter, he can do it all, he can box and he can fight in close, so getting ready for him his tough.

“basically I have trained to be ready for every eventuality, be it boxing a technical fight or trading shots I’ll be ready for it all.

“ I plan to be a more well rounded fighter than him, you can prepare for whatever style you want but when the bell goes the fight could chance and you got to be ready to fight however possible” added Dunne.

Speaking of his home town advantage Dunne confessed that it is vital. “You know it’s a major factor for me and to be fighting in a world title fight in my home town, it really is the best scenario for me.

“Having seen the new O2 arena I just can’t wait to get into the ring and experience it, it’s going to be electric”.

Dunne also spoke about the long road towards fighting for a world title. “ Its been a long road to get here,” confessed Dunne. “there’s been a lot of sacrifices and dedication, so many times I have asked myself is it worth this and you know what, times like these make it so worth while.

“I have been dreaming of this since I was a kid, and most of the time it’s just the stuff of dreams but for me I am getting my dream”.
