McGee aims to end Holm's boxing career with loss

This past December Mary McGee told the crowd in Albuquerque, NM (USA ) after her fourth round knockout over Victoria Cisneros, " It would be great to come back and fight here again, the fans were great and it was awesome." Her wish was granted as this Saturday night she will take on 12 time champion Holly Holm in Holm’s final fight in boxing, Holm plans to pursue a career in MMA after the McGee fight.

McGee who is 20-1-1, is looking forward to taking on Holm and a shot at stardom in women’s boxing. "Holly has been the face of women’s boxing and a true champion, this fight he biggest fight ever for me, so I need to take full advantage of the opportunity." says McGee

Many in the women’s boxing community feel that McGee is to small or doesn’t have a chance but promoter Lenny Fresquez feels McGee has a chance considering what she did in her last fight with Cisneros. " Mary hits hard and Victoria is as tough as they come and McGee stopped her. Victoria went 20 rounds with Holly and 10 with Braekhus and they didn’t stop her, so Mary can punch and that gives her a shot."

McGee works as a registered nurse when not fighting, but also finds time to work on a project close to her heart, Women’s Boxers of Kampala Project, a project to help the women in the poverty stricken country of Uganda, who want to train and box get better facilities and equipment to continue their dreams in boxing.

Its something that touches me, "I have a good life and if I can help these women in their dreams then it’s another purpose to why god has me on this earth." McGee has pledged to give part of her purse from the Holm fight to the project. McGee’s cause has touched many people who jumped on board including promoter Fresquez.

“As an strong advocate of women’s boxing for many, many years,” Fresquez said, “I was moved to learn of the plight women boxers in Kampala face. I applaud Classic Women Warriors Boxing for its lead role concerning this compelling story, as well as Mary McGee for donating part of her purse, and proudly join them by making a donation to support the Women’s Boxers of Kampala Project.

Win or Lose, McGee will continue to help women obtain their dreams in boxing, but first she will look to turn her dream Saturday night Holm’s nightmare. "I want to inspire people and with this win I hope to do just that."
