Jimmy Lange Wins WBU Belt with 37th Win

Jimmy Lange

Jimmy Lange proved why he’s the biggest attraction in the Washington DC area. His fights are always exciting and his cards usually represent the area’s best talent. It was no different on Saturday night at the Patriot center in Fairfax, VA, when he won via 6th round TKO over a tough but overmatched Raul “El Toro” Munoz.

The early rounds appeared to favor stocky Munoz. He landed clean shots that backed up the taller Lange (37-4-2, 24 KOs) and appeared to be winning the battle inside. By the fourth round, Lange adjusted to his opponent and landed a few hard right hands that hurt Munoz (22-15-1, 16 KOs). Heavy body shots started to wear down Munoz and the tide had turned in Lange’s favor. The sixth round featured a left hook that dropped Munoz early. Munoz was dropped two more times before the fight was called to a halt at 2:44 of the 6th round. The victory gave Jimmy Lange the vacant World Boxing Union (WBU) 154-lb belt.

In the undercard, two of DC’s rising prospects won exciting bouts. Todd “White Lightning” Wilson (11-0, 3 KOs) beat former world champion Erik “Mighty Mouse” Aiken (16-8-1, 12 KOs) via 6 round unanimous decision. Todd used his natural size advantage to wear down the smaller but quicker Aiken to earn the biggest win of his young career. The bout featured a flash knockdown of Todd Wilson in the early going. The judges’ scorecards read 59-54, 58-55, 59-57.

In another eagerly anticipated bout, local favorite Zain “Tiger” Shah (6-0, 4 KOs) won in impressive fashion by beating Baltimore’s Julius “Vicious” Kennedy (7-3-1, 3 KOs) via knockout at 1:50 of the second round. Shah used his long reach to measure his opponent and landed his big right hand to drop Kennedy in the first round. That right hand would prove lethal in the second, when he finished Kennedy for good.

Other results:

George “Wartime” Rivera (13-6, 4 KOs) wins UD8 over Jonathan “Reid Dawg” Reid (35-13, 19 KOs)

Michael “No Joke” Stewart (48-6-3, 24 KOs) wins TKO at 1:47 of the second round over Jimmy LeBlanc (12-21-4, 4 KOs)

Tori Nelson (5-0-1) wins UD4 over Michelle Garland (1-2-1)

Scott “Cujo” Sigmon (17-3, 8 KOs) wins UD8 over Bruce “The Rage” Rumbolz (22-23-2, 13 KOs)

Lawrence Jones (4-5-2, 1 KO) wins UD6 over Jose Felix (10-10-2, 3 KOs)
