Nieves Edges Out Vargas In Kissimmee


Jose Nieves scored a 12 round split decision points win over Cuauhtemoc Vargas to claim the WBO Latino super bantamweight title at the Kissimmee Civic Center in Kissimmee, Florida on Friday night.

The rounds were incredibly close but Nieves edged home on two of the judges cards by scores of 116-110, 116-112 while the third official made Vargas the victor on his card, 115-113.

On the undercard unbeaten lightweight Darley Perez improved to 20-0-(15), by outscoring Jose “El Gallo” Reyes (23-10, 8 KOs) over eight rounds. Reyes rocked Perez in round four, but Perez proved the better man on all three judges cards by scores of 79-73.
