Pascal vs Hopkins Heats Up

WBC light-heavyweight champ Jean Pascal and American challenger Bernard Hopkins very nearly came to blows three days early on Wednesday when Hopkins took charge of Pascal’s championship belt at the pre-fight press conference at the Quebec City Hall.

The festive fisticuffs began early when Quebec City Mayor Regis Labeaume innocently handed Pascal’s WBC belt to Hopkins for a photo-oppotunity.

Hopkins smiled as Pascal wrapped his arms around Hopkins in a bid to retrieve his belt.
"It’s my property," said Pascal. "I’ll give you till three to give it back."

Hopkins responded by saying "Come and get it".

After the fracas was broken up Pascal, 26-1-(16), told reporters: "He’s trying to mess with my head.

"But it didn’t work because I was waiting, I was prepared for this."

Hopkins,51-5-1-(32), is a past master at trash talk and winding up opponents, and wasted no time playing mind games with Pascal

"I had the belt, it looked tempting to me," said Hopkins. "I said ’Wow, the mayor has the belt, I might as well go and get my hands on it now, and sort of get used to it.’ I have plenty at home in my trophy case."
