ESPN 2's Friday Night Fights: Echard Set to Face Elbiali in Battle of Unbeatens

By Derek Gionta: ESPN 2’s Friday Night Fights will host a six-round battle of unbeaten light heavyweight prospects in the opening TV bout this Friday (2/6), as Dustin Echard locks horns with knockout artist Ahmed Elbiali. The fight will take place at the Beau Rivage Resort and Casino in Biloxi, Mississippi.

Echard, 10-0 (7), of Washington, West Virginia, began his fighting career in Toughman tournaments in West Virginia.

While winning the tournament twice, Echard compiled nearly 20 fights and sought out bigger challenges.

Soon thereafter he made the transition to professional boxing in April of 2012.

Now, at 28 years old, the fighter nicknamed "The Clean Coal Assassin" will step up in competition in his first TV fight against Egyptian Ahmed Elbiali, 8-0 (8), of Miami, Florida.

Echard works full-time as a Drilling Engineer for CNX Gas when he’s not in the gym, and sees this fight as an opportunity to advance his boxing career.

"The TV opportunity is huge for me moving forward in my career," said Echard.

"I work a full-time job, so for me to ever make any strides in my career I have to take a chance."

Elbiali, 24, riding a knockout streak of eight in as many fights, is part of the Al Haymon stable.

An accomplished amateur of over 40 fights, Elbiali won the Florida Golden Gloves twice before turning professional nearly two years ago.

Both combatants come from a hard-working background, having worked for a good portion of their life aside from boxing.

Now the two undefeated, 6’ tall, orthodox fighters apply their blue-collar traits to the professional prize ring with high hopes of making it to the top.

Echard stated, "I have nothing to lose and all to gain. Beat this guy, stay undefeated, potentially sign with a promoter afterwards, and focus on boxing for a living."

The twelve bout card, promoted by DiBella Entertainment, features the Sergio Mora-Abraham Han USBA Middleweight title fight.

The TV portion begins at 9pm EST with Echard and Elbiali taking center stage.
