Lamont Peterson returns January 25

IBF Light Welterweight champion Lamont Peterson will defend his title against undefeated Dierry Jean on Jan 25 in his hometown of Washington DC.

This will be the first outing for Peterson since being stopped in 3 against Lucas Matthysse in May. In that fight the DC native’s IBF strap was not up for grabs.

Dierry is currently 25-0 with 17 ko but has yet to mix in the same class as the champion. Peterson’s standout victory was a 12 round split decision win over Amir Khan in December 2011, made infamous by the alledged interference at ringside by and off duty IBF official Mustafa Ameen - the "man in a hat".

Peterson 31-2 with 16 ko is relishing the opportunity to fight in front of his home fans again:

"This is the perfect way for me to kick off 2014, with a great fight against a tough opponent in my hometown," he continued "Fights like these bring out the best in me and I’m going to give my fans a performance to remember on January 25."

Dierry is confident mood he can cause the upset:

"Peterson has been in the ring with many good fighters, but he hasn’t been in the ring with me,"

"I’ve worked hard for this for a long time. I have already started training camp and I’m in great shape. I just want to bring that belt home to Quebec, where it belongs."
