Former two-weight world champion Robert Guerrero has been forced to pull out of his August 27 WBA junior-welterweight title fight with Marco Maidana after sustaining a shoulder injury whilst sparring.
Promoter Richard Schaefer spoke to Guerrero’s assistant trainer Bob Santos this morning and said Guerrero was forced to break training camp and suspects he may have suffered a torn Rotator Cuff.
Schaeffer informed the media that Guerrero will travel to San Jose today to meet Dr Billingham, who is the San Francisco 49’s doctor, in order to give his diagnosis.
The entire August 27 fight card, scheduled for the HP Pavilion in San Jose, California, has been cancelled. Fans will be given a full refund.
Schaeffer confirmed: “Hopefully the fight will be rescheduled at a later date.”
