Afalobi Eager To Break Down Brudov And Move On

Leading up to the title world title defense of Wladimir Klitschko against Jean-Marc Mormeck, Ola Afolabi is eager to take the next step in his career. He will face off with Valery Brudov for the WBO Interim Cruiserweight Championship. Both title fights will take place in the already sold out ESPRIT arena, Düsseldorf (Germany) on Saturday, March 3.

Afolabi knocked out Enzo Maccarinelli to win the vacant WBO interim title on March 14, 2009. His last fight was a knockout victory against British champion Terry Dunstan in round 1 on the Wladimir Klitschko vs David Haye show last year. His fight record is 18-3-2 with 8 Kos.

Brudov’s record is 39-3 with 28 Kos. He fought Jim Franklin in June 2011 last and scored a second round TKO. Brudov’s 3 losses came against Guillermo Jones for the WBA world title (TKO 11) in 2010, Firat Arslan by split decision for the WBA title in 2007, and against Virgil Hill for the WBA world title fight in 2006.

At the official weigh in on Friday Afolabi weighed in at 90.2 kilogramm, Brudov at 84.5. Their 12 round WBO Interim Cruiserweight World Championship fight starts at 21:30 CET.

In another bout in Düsseldorf, Alexander Ustinov fights against Kertson Manswell in an 8 round heavyweight clash. They weighed in at 139.0 kilogramm (Ustinov) and 118.1 kilogramm (Manswell).
