By Marc Livitz: Alfredo “El Perro” Angulo quickly proved to be too much for American Joseph Gomez in front of Angulo’s hometown crowd at the Nido Sport Center in Mexicali, BC, Mexico on Saturday.
The once defeated Mexican junior middleweight did not have to swarm his opponent. Rather, he patiently walked down Gomez with effective jabs. Gomez had lost three of his last four bouts and Angulo wanted to make it four out of five. Angulo backed Gomez up against the ropes and landed a seemingly powerful two-punch combination to the midsection. This was followed up by a straight right hand that did not land flush, yet grazed the side of Gomez’s head.
Gomez slumped to the canvas and was tagged by a short left to the chin on his way down and was ko’d after 1:24. Alfredo Angulo improved his record to 20 (17) -1 - 0. The Mexican fighter’s sole loss, to Kermit Cintron is beginning to fade.
