Jonathon “Lil Thunder” Arellano out-pointed the previously undefeated Michael Ruiz, Jr. (8-1-1, 3KO) over eight rounds at the Doubletree Hotel in Ontario, California on Friday night to claim the WBC Inter-Continental super bantamweight title.
Arrelano produced a solid performance and scored a knockdown in the fourth round, courtesy of a hard right cross to the head. Ruiz was always game but Arrelano proved too slick on the night. The three judges scored the bout 80-71, 79-72 and 78-73, all for Arellano.
On the undercard Richard “El Terminador” Contreras, (7-0, 6KO), knocked out Olvin Mejia (4-5-3, 4KO) after just 1:05 of the first round. Contreras, making his debut for Thompson Boxing, looked good in belting out his opponent.
