Floyd Mayweather Jr has told Victor Ortiz via his Twitter account that if he can beat Andre Berto again then he will grant him a rematch. The undefeated American Superstar controversially knocked out Ortiz in the fourth round to claim the WBC welterweight title a couple of weeks ago. At the time ’Money’ Mayweather had dismissed the idea of a rematch but now it appears he has had a change of heart.
The bout at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas turned into a foul fest after Ortiz landed an intentional head butt on Mayweather’s chin, resulting in a severe reprimand from referee Joe Cortez. As Ortiz motioned and apologized to Mayweather, Mayweather sucker punched Ortiz after Cortez waved the fight back on.
Despite the controversy Mayweather,42-0-(29), fought completely within the rules and said via Twitter: “I’ll give Ortiz a rematch but first he’s got to get passed Andre Berto. The only man who can beat me is the man in the mirror. Victoria Ortiz’s new nickname is ‘Take 2 of these [punches] and call me in the morning.’ Victoria Ortiz thought it was a headbutting contest. But that 2 piece gave him some act right”
