Mosley vs Marquez ends in no contest

Former two weight world champion Shane Mosley’s return to the ring following two back to back defeats against Vernon Forrest, ended prematurely when his contest with Raul Marquez ended in a no contest.
The non title 12 round bout, staged at the Mandalay Bay Events Centre in Las Vegas, ended in the third round when an unintentional head butt opened up cuts over both of Marquez’s eyes. The bout was ruled a no contest because four rounds had not been completed as per the Nevada State Boxing Commission rules.

Mosley, who held world titles at lightweight and welterweight, seemed to getting the better of the action against the physically bigger former IBF champ Marquez until the untimely intervention of the referee.

The result means Mosley stays at 38-2-(35) while Marquez is 34-2-(23)

The main chief support saw Antonio Margarito retained his WBO welterweight title for the second time with an impressive second round stoppage win over former WBA champion Andrew ‘Six Head’ Lewis.

Lewis came out in the opener to stamp his authority on the fight but Margarito stepped up the pace in the second and connected with a thunderous straight right hand to force Lewis onto the ropes. A few more well placed punches forced referee Joe Cortez to step in and call the fight off.
