Based on the results of drug tests carried out by the Nevada State Athletic Commission, both Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr tested negative for performance-enhancing drugs, including steroids.
Executive Director of the NSAC Keith Kizer informed ABS-CBN News on Saturday that both Pacquiao and Mayweather Jr returned negative tests.
Pacquiao’s laboratory tests were undertaken in General Santos, before being sent to Malaysia while Mayweather Jr.’s test was conducted in Las Vegas and then sent on to Arizona.
According to ABS-CBN News the results of the tests were returned nine days after the negotiations for a March 13 Pacquiao vs Mayweather Jr super fight broke down because neither camp could agree on how pre and post fight drug tests should be conducted. Team Mayweather wanted both fighters to undertake Olympic style random drug testing while Pacquiao insisted on a test when the fight was officially announced, one 30 days before and a final test immediately after the fight.
When all avenues to make the fight happen were finally exhausted Pacquiao’s promoter Bob Arum moved quickly to secure the services of former IBF champion Joshua Clottey to face the pound for pound king on the same March 13 date in Dallas, Texas.
Mayweather Jr also announced that he will also be fighting on March 13, though opponent has yet been announced.
