Pavlik-Hopkins Make Weight, Butt Heads in Atlantic City

Pavlik vs. Hopkins
Pavlik vs. Hopkins

By Jason Pribila in Atlantic City: The mutual respect that Kelly Pavlik and Bernard Hopkins showed each other throughout the promotion of “Unstoppable” took a temporary backseat when the light heavyweights faced off at the weigh-in at Caesar’s in Atlantic City, New Jersey, USA.

Several hundred fight fans packed the Circus Maximus Theater in Atlantic City in anticipation of Saturday Night’s PPV Showdown between current Middleweight Champion Kelly Pavlik as he meets the man that ruled the division for ten years.

After being treated to a replay of HBO’s “Countdown to Pavlik-Hopkins”, the atmosphere suddenly felt like a pep rally for the State of Ohio

Bernard “The Executioner” Hopkins was the first one on the scale, and weighed in at the contractual weight of 170lbs. Bernard, as always, looked to be in amazing condition.

Kelly “The Ghost” Pavlik weighed in at 169 lbs., the most he has weighed since 2002. Pavlik also looked strong. In fact, each fighter looked like they could fight this evening rather than needing to rehydrate.

During the face-off, Hopkins didn’t wait for Pavlik to get his feet planted, and he was already head-to-head, and nose to nose. After a few tense moments of jawing at each other, the fighters were separated without incident.

The two will settle their differences tomorrow evening on HBO PPV.
