By Juan Barajas: Friday night at the Westin Peachtree Plaza hotel in Atlanta GA, Zahir “King” Raheem (31-3, 18 KO) met up with veteran Roberto Valenzuela (53-54, 43 KO) in the main event
Raheem took control from the very beginning, using angles and combinations against Valenzuela. Two minutes into round one, Raheem landed a right, wobbling his opponent, but Valenzuela was able to withstand the punishment and finish the round.
As the second round started, Raheem picked up where he left off, working the body and landing shots to the head. At 2:48 into the second, Raheem landed a combination that dropped Valenzuela in the corner. Valenzuela tried to get up at the count of nine, but the referee waved it off at 2:56 of the round.
On the undercard, Paul “The Truth” Delgado (24-9-1 4 KO) outboxed Chad Greenleaf (12-16-1) over six rounds.
Although there were instances of give and take from both fighters, Delgado was always in control. In the final round, Greenleaf came out determined, as if he knew that he needed a knockout to win. He started off strong, but Delgado kept to his plan and landed a right hand that dropped Greenleaf in the corner.
Greenleaf was able to get up and finish the round but the inevitable was set as as all three judges scored it unanimously for Delgado.
