US Friday Night Round Up: Lyell Out-Points Walker


Friday night at the Covelli Center in Youngstown, Ohio former world middleweight title challenger Billy Lyell (24-9) made his hometown return a success when he out-pointed Michael Walker.

Lyell was always far too quick a counter puncher for Chicago based Walker (19-9) The scores over six rounds were 60-54 on all judges cards.

At the at the Fantasy Springs Resort Casino in Indio, California. undefeated junior welterweight Frankie Gomez (10-0, 8 KOs) scored a fourth round tko win over Khadaphi Proctor (7-6-1, 0 KOs)

Gomez, who was faster and stronger, scored a knockdown in round three before the bout was stopped after 2:25 of round four.

Super bantamweight Randy Caballero (12-0, 7 KOs) Also remained unbeaten when he scored an eight round unanimous points win over previously undefeated Alexis Santiago (7-1-1, 2 KOs) The scores were 80-72, 80-72, 79-73. Caballero wins the vacant WBC Youth Intercontinental title.

The third undefeated boxer on the card junior welterweight Antonio Orozco (11-0, 8 KOs) scored a third round knockout win over Joshua Beeman (4-10-2, 2 KOs).
