Viloria Stable Following Title defeat

Brian Viloria is now in a stable condition after being rushed to hospital following his IBF junior-flyweight title loss to Colombian challenger Carlos Tamara in Pasay City, Metro Manila, Philippines on Friday night

Viloria was taken to the San Juan de Dios Hospital after collapsing in his dressing room due to exhaustion following his 12th round technical knockout.

The latest news is Viloria has now been transferred to the Makati Medical Center where he underwent medical tests, including a CT scan.

Insidesport,ph has reportedly received information from the Amateur Boxing Association of the Philippines president Ricky Vargas, a top executive of businessman-sportsman Manny Pangilinan, who owns the Makati Medical Center.

Dr. Regina Makalintal, the neurologist treating the boxer said: “Viloria is fully awake now. No more headache.”

Referee Bruce McTavish stopped the fight 1:45 into the 12th and final round. It is not known what happened in the locker room after the fight but soon after he arrived in the room Viloria was rushed to hospital before being transferred to the Makati Medical Center for more tests.

Nasser Cruz, the boxing division chief of the Philippine Games and Amusement Board told the Associated Press afterwards all was well with Viloria following the scan and neck and chest X rays: "It appears all the results were favorable.

"In my view he was very exhausted. ... He had no knockdowns. He just got really tired."

"Even if you are conscious, as long as you had a difficult fight -- he delivered a lot of punches and he also received many hits -- it’s just a regular thing to undergo a check up," Cruz added.

Viloria looked to be controlling the early part of the fight but he slowed down towards the end of the eighth round, at which point the Colombian challenger took over. Viloria was cut above the left eye late on and took quite a bit of punishment towards the end.

Viloria looked exhausted and fell to the canvas twice after missing the target in the final round. Referee Bruce McTavish stepped in to stop the fight after 1.45 of the 12th and final round.
