Couser battles Greeley in St Louis

Veteran heavyweight Cliff Couser of Las Vegas faces Andrew Greeley of Monroe, La., in the 10-round main event July 8 in Bay St. Louis, Miss., on the inaugural professional boxing card promoted by World Wide Boxing, dubbed "Battle at the Bay."

Couser, 34, has a record of 25-10-2 with 13 knockouts while Greeley, 10 years younger at 24, has a mark of 9-8-1 with six knockouts.

"We're confident that World Wide Boxing's promotional debut will be a success," said Las Vegan Tony Dane, president of World Wide Boxing.

"We at World Wide Boxing are well aware you have to walk before you run," continued Dane. "And with that in mind, we have every confidence we'll be presenting bigger cards in the future."

Six-round bouts on the card include cruiserweight Justin Verdin of Bay St. Louis against Paul Foret of Monroe, La. and welterweight Steve Verdin of Bay St. Louis, Justin's brother, against Mikel Williams of Monroe.

Four-round fights include cruiserweight Brent Carline of Gulfport, Miss., against Jesse Parsley of Mobile, Ala., and woman welterweight Opel Bree of Bay St. Louis against Lisa Zerringue of Covington, La.

Also in action will be light heavyweight James Johnson of Shreveport, La., the former World Boxing Federation Americas welterweight champion who has a record of 18-14-2 with 11 knockouts, against a male opponent to be determined. Johnson is scheduled to meet woman fighter Ann Wolfe later this summer in Mississippi.

The six-bout card starts at 7 p.m. (Central) with doors to the Hancock County Civic Center opening at 6.

Tickets are priced at $15 for general admission and at $150 for a ringside VIP table which seats six. Tickets are available online at www.wwboxing.net or at the Hancock County Civic Center box office July 8.
