Reportedly, WBO featherweight champion Steven Luevano has repordedly signed to defend his crown versus Mario Santiago in support of the Pacquiao-Diaz WBC lightweight showdown, set for Saturday, June 28 in Las Vegas.
The 27-year-old Luevano (35-1, 15 KOs) from La Puente, California, will be making his third defense of the WBO 126 lbs. title he won last July via KO 11 over Nicky Cook in the UK.
Ponce, Puerto Rico’s Santiago (19-1, 14 KOs) is currently rated # 3 IBF, # 6 WBC and # 10 WBA. The 29-year-old southpaw is a former WBC CABOFE (Caribbean Boxing Federation) featherweight titlist, who’s only defeat came to Hector Velazquez in a WBC eliminator last July. Santiago is coming off a first round knockout over Edel Ruiz on February 1 in Puerto Rico.
