Blades Delivers Knockout, Promotes first show in Indianapolis

On saturday night, former WBO light heavyweight title challenger George "Honey Boy" Blades, 23-4 (16), returned to the ring after a layoff exceeding two and half years to defeat James Morrow, 12-20-3 (5), of Lafayette, Indiana by a seventh round TKO in the eight round main event at the Inadianpolis Fairgrounds’ DuPont Pavilion.

Blades, now promoting the sport with his mother Rita Noble under their banner RHB Promotions, plans to deliver boxing on a consistent basis in the midwest region and beyond.

Aside from the rigors of promoting, Blades, from Indianapolis, dealt with a determined veteran in Morrow willing to take punches until the end. Morrow took a barrage of power punches, hitting the canvas several times throughout the fight’s duration, however, got back on his feet and came back for more when most would have clocked out and packed their bags.

Blades, clearly ahead by a shutout on the scorecards, finally ended the night with a TKO at the 2:18 mark of the round.

Junior lightweight Alfredo Guarneros, 6-10 (5), of Noblesville, IN scored a first round technical knockout over Ryan Strickland, 1-5 (1), of Indianapolis following a vicious right uppercut that sent Strickland to the canvas. Referee Tony Gray stopped the fight at the 1:12 mark.

In the third bout of the evening, Pittsburgh, PA heavyweight Fred Latham, 2-0 (2), scored a second round technical knockout over Tennessee’s Marvin Hunt, 12-30-1 (5), after recording his third knockdown of the round. Latham boxed patiently in the opening round behind a stiff jab, keeping the 42-fight veteran at bay and landed combinations while scoring his first knockdown of the fight near the 10-second warning. Referee Bill Paige finally called it off at 2:17.

In the second bout of the evening Pittsburgh light heavyweight Rayco "War" Saunders, 23-19-2 (10), scored a fourth round knockout over Tennessee native Anthony Bowman, 10-43-2 (2) at the 42 second mark of the round. The opening two rounds consisted of Bowman coming forward throwing a high volume of punches while Saunders caught many of them on the arms and gloves and picked up the pace as the fight progressed. In the fourth round, Saunders landed a sharp right hand to the head of Bowman behind a stiff jab sending him to the canavs for what could have been a few minutes as referee Tony Gray counted him out. The fight was scheduled for six rounds.

The opening bout of the evening was a six rounder between middleweight Ibahiem "The Almighty" King, 11-8 (5), of West Palm Beach Florida and Anthony McManaway, 0-3, of West Lafayette, IN. King, a southpaw, scored multiple knockdowns en route to a third round TKO at the 1:03 mark.

The five-bout card billed as "Main Event Part One" was initially scheduled for January 19th but was postponed to February 16th for various reasons. RHB Promotions made well of the time in between and plan to continue promoting more shows going forward.
