Arce Vacates WBO Super-Bantamweight Crown

Jorge “Travieso” Arce has vacated his World Boxing Organization (WBO) Super bantamweight championship to fight for the WBO Bantamweight title and become the first Mexican boxer with titles in five different weight divisions.

Arce (58-6-2, 45 KOs), who owned world crowns at 108, 112, 115 and 122 pounds, will face Indonesian Angky Angkotta (25-5, 14 KOs) next Saturday, November 26 in Mazatlan, Sinaloa, Mexico for the WBO Bantamweight belt.

“Zanfer Promotions requested Arce, who was interested in a fight for a fifth title and to make history for Mexico. So Arce vacated his 122lb title and will fight for the 118lb belt.

The WBO approved the bout between Arce, the number one ranked, and Angkotta, ranked number six, to be held on November 26", WBO President, Francisco "Paco" Valcarcel said.

Arce and Angkotta faced each other on January 2010 for the WBO Superflyweight title, and the bout ended in a victory for Arce by technical decision when an accidental headbutt caused a cut on Angkotta’s right eye.

“Now the Bantamweight and the Superbantmweight titles are vacant with the former champions Nonito Donaire (118lb) and Arce (122lb) ranked first in 122 and 118 pounds, respectively", Valcarcel said.
