By Paul Upham: Former undisputed super flyweight boxing world champion Vic Darchinyan will get the chance to move forward from his controversial points loss to Abner Mares, when he faces former world champion Yonnhy Perez in 2011 in stage 2 of Showtime’s bantamweight tournament.
The Showtime card in the USA with Abner Mares vs. Joseph Agbeko in the tournament final and Darchinyan vs. Perez in the preliminary match, will be held at the 7,000-seat Nokia Theater in downtown Los Angeles in either April or May 2011.
Darchinyan lost a disputed split decision to Mares on December 11, despite having Mares down once in the second round and the Mexican losing a point in the fourth round.
