By Paul Upham: One of the worlds’ leading boxing historians, Arnold Thomas is the curator of the Australian National Boxing Hall of Fame exhibition at the National Sports Museum in the Melbourne Cricket Ground. His second book “Where Warriors Rest” is evidence of the thousands of hours of research Thomas has spent locating the finer details about thousands of boxers worldwide.

“Heroes of the Fancy” was Thomas’ first book in 1999 which covered Australian boxing history to the 1930’s. His endless search for knowledge on boxers has resulted this time around in a new book which is a special record of the resting places of 104 Australian and international boxers. Some of the bigger names include Les Darcy, Young Griffo, Joe Louis, Sonny Liston, Elley Bennett and Dave Sands. Thomas has done a noble job in respecting the boxers and their resting memories.

Careful research saw Thomas track down the grave sites of the boxers, some previously unrecognised and visit them in person. The 150 page, A4 sized, soft cover book is packed full of photos of the grave sites and the boxers themselves. Thomas’ superior knowledge of the fighters involved adds qualified detail to the summary on each page.

“Where Warriors Rest”, priced at $35, is self published by Arnold Thomas and along with “Heroes of the Fancy”, is available from the author via email -
