By Paul Upham: WBC/WBA/IBF junior bantamweight boxing world champion Vic “Raging Bull” Darchinyan has arrived in Los Angeles, USA for the final weeks of his training camp as he prepares to move up in weight once again on July 11. The Armenian born Australian citizen will challenge IBF bantamweight champion Joseph “King Kong” Agbeko on Showtime Championship Boxing.

“Agbeko is a good fighter,” Darchinyan told SecondsOut. “He is strong. I saw his last couple of fights. He stopped Luis Perez, who was a good fighter. I know he was a good world champion and Agbeko stopped him in round 7. Agbeko works on angles with a big punch. He is busy. He is a good puncher and he is a good fighter, but I will knock him out.”

Also a former IBF flyweight world champion, 33 year-old Darchinyan 32-1 (26) is unconcerned about moving up in weight again to face a knockout puncher like 29 year-old Agbeko 26-1 (22), who is from Accra, Ghana and now a resident of Bronx, New York.

“I don’t think he will be bigger than me,” said Darchinyan. “He will be a bit taller than me. But when he feels my power, he is going to become smaller and compact. He will look smaller than me in defence. When someone is comfortable in the ring, they look big. If someone is uncomfortable in the ring, they look small. I have always sparred good fighters who were much heavier than me, like Israel Vazquez and Edwin Valero. I have done many sparring sessions with bigger boxers who can help me.

“I will be a bantamweight. I have put on weight already. I have big muscles now. People will see that I am not too big for this weight division, I will be strong at this weight division and I will move up again. Like Manny Pacquiao, who was a flyweight world champion and who has now moved up seven or eight weight classes. It is not about size. It is about ability and how you believe in yourself.”

Many experts are suggesting that this is the toughest fight of Darchinyan’s career. Not according to the “Raging Bull”.

“In my boxing career, I think the biggest fight so far has been against Irene Pacheco,” he explained. “I think he was the toughest opponent I have faced. Cristian Mijares was a big fight also. But I think Pacheco was the best opponent I have faced so far. When I fought Jorge Arce, I couldn’t even feel his punches. Pacheco had good body punches. He was a competitive puncher and a competitive fighter.”

Of course, the one opponent that will always be thrown back in Darchinyan’s face by his critics is Nonito Donaire. The “Filipino Flash”, who knocked him out with one punch in July 2007.

“We talk about he should be a good fighter,” said Darchinyan. “I am looking for a rematch with him. He is meant to be fighting for a junior bantamweight world title. I will go down in weight again to fight Donaire if he becomes world champion. I made him and I want to break him. After our rematch, no one is going to talk about our first fight. When I destroy him, everyone is going to see that it was just a mistake from me.”

Agbeko vs. Darchinyan is being co-promoted by Don King Productions and Gary Shaw Productions, LLC and will be held at the BankAtlantic Center in Sunrise, Florida, USA. The twelve round bantamweight world title match will be televised live on Showtime Championship Boxing on Saturday July 11 at 9pm ET/PT, delayed on the west coast.

“On July 11, you are going to see a great fight from me,” said Darchinyan. “It is going to be an exciting fight. It will not be boring. I think he will start running when he takes my punches. I am going to demolish him and knock him out. Always people are saying that I am repeating my words. That I am going to demolish my opponent and knock him out - because I am doing it. That’s what is happening.”
