Garcia Tops Barrera Again, Retains IBF 105

At Stadio Arturo C. Nahl in La Paz, Mexico, IBF 105 lbs. champion Raul Garcia retained his title for the fourth time via sixth round TKO over Ronald Barrera in a rematch of a February 2008 bout held in the same arena. A cut over Barrera’s right eye prompted the stoppage at 2:26.

Local favorite Garcia, 26, outpointed Barrera on unanimous scores in an IBF eliminator on February 29, 2008. Southpaw Garcia is now 26-0-1, 16 KOs.

The 24-year-old Barrera, from Barranquilla, Colombia, whose record now stands at 26-6-1, 16 KOs, has endured two previous close call losses in world title challenges - both on points – to Yutaka Niida (WBA) and Ivan Calderon (WBO) in March 2006 and April 2007, respectively.
