Román “Chocolatito” González overcame a tough challenge from Manuel Vargas, 29-8-1-(14), to retain his WBA jr flyweight title for the first time at the Plaza San Diego in Puebla, Mexico on Saturday night.
Gonzalez, 28-0-(23), was judged a 12 round winner on all three judges cards by scores of 116-112, 116-112 and 119-109.
On the undercard, although, lightweight Ricardo “Pelón” Domínguez, 33-7-2-(20), floored Luis Arceo, 23-11-3-(15), in round three-he seemed fortunate to escape with a split 10 round decision win.
