By Paul Upham: Danny Green’s proposed clash with former welterweight and middleweight world title challenger Shannan "Blaster" Taylor on August 5 at the Wollongong Entertaining Centre in Australia has fallen through. Justin Manolikos, the head of Green Machine Promotions, told Taylor on Thursday that Green was postponing the fight for now.
37 year-old Taylor, who lost to Anthony Mundine at middleweight on points on February 11, was furious when told of the news.
“Green looks like a pretender,” Taylor told SecondsOut. “He gave his word that he would never come out of retirement like other fighters have because he was smarter, and he did. He gave me his word our fight would happen on August 5. They told me to go and win on May 29, which I did, by 1st round knockout. Green’s word is nothing and he is not a man. He is scared of a little man at middleweight.”
A former WBA light heavyweight world champion, Green is expected to announce next week that he has completed a deal to face Roy Jones Jr in Melbourne later in 2009. The agreement will call for Green to appear on the August 22 undercard of Jones Jr against Jeff Lacy at the New Orleans Arena in New Orleans, Louisiana.
Taylor, who sparred over one hundred rounds with Green when they trained alongside each other at Team Fenech a few years ago, believes his experience would have seen him defeat the “Green Machine”.
“Green is not as strong as Arthur Abraham and he does not punch like Sugar Shane Mosley,” said Taylor. “He struggled against Mundine, who shit himself against me.”
Taylor is now contemplating other fights in South Africa on August 5 and in the USA on August 8.

i cant believe green would even consider fighting that sooky la la taylor, come on green your not getting any younger ,dont waste time fighting a blown up light welter ,even at the lower weights he wasnt competitive with the best (mosley ) dont know what makes him think he can mix it with a top light heavy !

green and taylor just doing it for the money now , no real critisism against either for this but everyone knows the young condender fire in the belly , me against the world attitude has gone from both . hate these type of battles between ageing battlers especially when one was a former lightweight whos going up against a natural light heavyweight , aww well know greens got plenty of money and hope shannon gets enough to buy a house ????
