By Paul Upham: If former WBA light heavyweight boxing world champion Danny Green is serious about making a comeback, Sydney warrior Nader “Lionheart” Hamdan is ready to give him the fight he needs and the battle the fans want to see.

“Everyone knows I want the Green fight,” Hamdan. “He wants to come back and defeat Anthony Mundine. But the way I see it, if he can’t beat me, there is no point in him fighting Mundine. I know that I will be a good tough hard fight for him. I will give him a real test and I know it is a fight that the boxing fans will want to see.”

There has been much speculation as to the real reasons for Green’s shock retirement last year and subsequent comeback. 35 year-old Hamdan 41-6 (18) believes that the retirement was genuine at the time over Easter 2008.

“I think he did retire, but he did miss it,” he said.

While he lost a world title fight in a great battle against Anthony Mundine in February 2008, Hamdan still has aspirations to become world champion and he knows what a victory over Green would do for his career.

“Obviously, it would be a big opportunity for me,” he agreed. “I have talked to Danny about a fight. A win for me over him would put me in a position where I could get some even bigger fights. Instead of talking people talking about Mundine-Green 2, they can talk about Mundine-Hamdan 2. My last two fights have been standing ovation fights and everyone knows when I come to fight, I come to fight and put on a show for the people. Green’s style and my style will just go head to head and it will be great to watch.”

Rumours out of Green Machine Promotions in Perth suggest that a date in the last two weeks of April has been targeted for Green’s comeback. Hamdan is ready to sign a contract now.

“Danny and I have sparred a lot of rounds over the years,” said Hamdan, “and I know how strong and how powerful he is. I know his strengths and I know his weaknesses. People saw what a great fight I gave Anthony Mundine and people will get nothing less if I fight Green. Mundine told the media that I gave him a tougher fight than both Green and Sam Soliman. That says something. You won’t see much boxing if me and Green get into the ring. It will be a fight. Two guys who fight with heart.”
