March Huck inflicted the first defeat on the record of Ran Nakash at the Gerry Weber Stadium in Halle, Germany on Saturday when he won a 12 round decision to retain his WBO cruiserweight title.
Nakash, 25-1-(18), was the aggressor throughout, while Huck kept his cool and preferred to box at long range. Huck’s tactics proved correct as he ran out a clear 118-110, 118-110, 116-112 points winner on all three cards but the score did not reflect the competitiveness of the fight.
On the undercard unbeaten heavyweight Robert Helenius, 15-0-(10), took a step up in class against Samuel Peter and knocked the former WBC heavyweight champ out in the 10th round.
Peter, who came in at a whopping 2,60lbs, went forward all night in an attempt to walk down his opponent but Helenius worked behind his jab, stayed patient and took his opportunity in the 10th when he floored Peter with a left hook, followed up with a series of punches to nail Peter to the canvass. The time of the knockout was 1.15.
