By Lwazi Ndzobongo Vusi Malinga has won the right to challenge for the IBF bantamweight title. Malinga beat Michael Domingo via 12 round unanimous decision on Saturday night in this IBF eliminator in Mafikeng, South Africa.
The judges scores were 117-111 and 115-113 twice. Malinga started slow but was able to increase his work rate as the fight went on. Malinga’s best rounds were the seventh and eighth where he dominated Domingo, causing a cut on the bridge of his nose. Altitude became Domingo’s enemy as it clearly showed in the last two rounds that he was tired despite having fought well in rounds nine and 10.
Malinga improved to 20-3-1 (12) while Domingo drops to 46-15-2 (18)
On the undercard, Phillip Ndou stopped Bhekimpilo Mlilo in the fourth round of a scheduled eight. Ndou fighting at junior middleweight for the first time would have failed if he had not ended this fight early. Mlilo, the Zimbabwean has very little experience and a 50% win ratio. Ndou improved to 33-4 (32) and Mlilo drops to 5-5.
Silence Mabuza bt Lwazi Mzolisa; TKO 3 (Jnr featherweight)

Jeffrey Mathebula bt Siviwe Hasheni, TKO 2 (Jnr featherweight)
This writer is excited about the coming weekends action (5-6 October). Firstly on Friday night the 5th from Durban, Thabiso Mchunu takes on Daniel Bruwer for the South African Cruiseweight title. The unbeaten but relatively inexperienced Mchunu 7-0 (6) will defend against Bruwer 21-1-1 (18), this is a mouth watering bout where both boxers pack a good punch, expect fireworks.
On Saturday the 6th, South Africa’s most promising talent Thomas Oosthuizen 11-0 (8) will battle with Isaac Chilembe 15-1 (8) for the IBO super middleweight title. This should be another cracker, this writer rates Oosthuizen very highly and this will be a big challenge for him as Chilembe is no slouch, it should come down to the one who doesn’t lose his cool and forgets about the game plan. This fight night from Emperors Palace will also include Flo Simba and Malcolm Klaasen to name a few.
