Montiel Victorious In Chiapas


By Juan Barajas: In Chiapas, Mexico, Fernando Montiel, 43-2-2-(33), the WBC/WBO bantamweight champion battled for three rounds with Rafael Concepcion, 14-5-(2), before stopping him at 1:07 in the third.

Montiel was able to land combinations at will, dropping Concepcion twice in the second and again in the third before the referee stepped in and waved the fight off.

On the undercard, Ramon Maas, 21-0-9-(13), pulled out a split decision victory over Carlos Penalosa, 5-11-1-(3), after four rounds in a super bantamweight bout. Michael Medina, 24-2-2-(19), stopped Gilberto Hernandez, 14-5-(10) in the fourth round of their junior middleweight match and lightweight Armando Robles, 13-1-(8), won via TKO over Alejandro Mendez at 2:58 of the third round.
